TIEE is designed to improve ecology teaching by helping undergraduate faculty include more student-active teaching approaches in ecology courses, both in lecture and in lab. It also fosters ecology education research, which increasing numbers of faculty are engaged in. TIEE evolved through discussions in the Education Section of ESA. For this reason — and because TIEE relies on ecologists for submissions, reviews, evaluation, and new ideas — it is a community effort.
We believe that TIEE is an extremely valuable resource for ecology educators and faculty. TIEE has been supported by several grants from the Division of Undergraduate Education at the National Science Foundation since 2000. ESA has also supported TIEE by hosting it on the ESA website, in addition to other aid.
At this time, NSF support for TIEE has come to a close and ESA is looking into its options on continuing to maintain the publication. We are therefore not currently accepting submissions while these deliberations are in progress. If you would like to be notified about future opportunities to submit or engage in some other way with future TIEE volumes (such as reviewing or editing), we encourage you to join the ESA Education listserv, a free resource that will allow you to stay in touch with the community.
